There are many spectacular settings for racetracks around the world, but Miller Motorsports Park in Utah is undeniably one of the finest. Set on an undulating plain against the backdrop of the Oquirrh mountains, the track guarantees stunning images and wonderful scenery. And along with the fantastic scenery, the track also boasts some of the best names for corners on any track around the world: From Dreamboat, through Work-Out to the fast kink of Scream; from Right Hook to Knock Out and then on to Witchcraft; then the Attitudes, First, Second, and Bad; before the final flick right through Wind Up and out Release – the most appropriately named corner in the world – along the front straight.
Despite the interesting layout – good for some outstanding battles in the World Supersport class, who will not be joining the World Superbike riders in Utah as a way of containing costs for the junior class – Miller has a history of allowing a single rider to dominate proceedings. In the three visits that WSBK has paid to the circuit, each of the weekends has ended in a double win for one rider: Carlos Checa in 2008, Ben Spies in 2009 and Max Biaggi in 2010. The number of winners should really be fewer: Checa was leading both 2010 races comfortably before sidelined by a simple mechanical issue, twice denying him victory.

Marco Simoncelli is probably the most exciting rider in MotoGP at the moment. Obviously, his physical presence – tall, lanky, with an enormous and tangled bush of hair atop his head – helps him stand out from the crowd, but it is his riding which has endeared him to the fans. The boy is fast, utterly fearless and willing to fight for every inch of the track. Simoncelli stands aside for no man, which means that at any time, at any track, he can pull the most astonishing moves to try and either defend his position or snatch a place from out of the blue. The fans love it.
The riders, not so much. That impetuousness, seizing the first hint of a gap as soon as it opens, and opening it by force if necessary, has not made him very popular with the remainder of the MotoGP field. Simoncelli, they say, is a wildcard, a rider who is so unpredictable that they don't feel comfortable racing in close proximity with him. The kind of fairing-bashing action that leaves tire marks all over leathers may make Simoncelli a favorite with the fans, but having to deal with it at 300 km/h while manhandling a MotoGP bike around is not an enjoyable experience.

Behind the glamour, passion and engineering excellence that is MotoGP lies a world which receives a lot less attention, but is at least as important: the world of finance. For running a motorcycle road racing world championship costs money, and though the goal of any enterprise – including running a world championship – is to make a profit, in a world of declining motorcycle sales and economic uncertainty, making money in motorcycle racing is no easy feat.
That task is especially difficult for Bridgepoint Capital, the venture capital firm that took a controlling stake in Dorna back in 2006. Bridgepoint reportedly paid CVC some EUR 550 million for the stake in Dorna, an amount that was widely regarded even at the time as a very generous valuation, especially as CVC had acquired Dorna for around GBP 45 million just 8 years earlier in 1998. The purchase was funded in part by loans taken out by Bridgepoint from a range of banks.

The return of the 1000cc MotoGP bikes in 2012 is keenly awaited, and testing for the 2012 season is now well underway. Ducati has had two days of testing at Jerez back in April, while Casey Stoner put in two days on the Honda at Jerez earlier this month.
As they did for the switch to 800cc back in 2007, Ducati is getting a lot of work done early, as Valentino Rossi is back on track at Mugello today (Thursday), testing the GP12 again, according to reports at GPOne.com. Rossi's test day will be the third of the eight days testing allowed with contracted (i.e. current MotoGP) riders on the 2012 machine, and as GPOne.com suggests, is a clue that the emphasis for Ducati is very much on being competitive from the start of the 2012 season.

In an effort to regain his license to fight, Chael Sonnen testified today in front of the California State Athletic Commission in Los Angeles. He was asked questions about prior testimony in his positive steroid test case from UFC 117 and his recent real estate scam run-in with the feds in Oregon. Sonnen even mentioned the fact that he’s been offered a slot on the UFC’s reality show "The Ultimate Fighter," and said if even he wasn’t licensed the commission is effectively retiring him.
Apparently, he couldn’t do a thing to alter the commission’s stance. The commission voted 4-1 in favor of keeping his license in suspended status.
With the help of ESPN.com’s Josh Gross and MMAjunkie’s Steven Marrocco, Cage Potato recapped some of the major moments of the hearing:
- Sonnen did his best to shift blame about his testosterone therapy statements, saying Matt Lindland informed him that he was cleared for TRT in Nevada and California. Sonnen admitted that he never had a conversation with the NSAC's Keith Kizer about it, and never intended to make it sound like he did.
- Kizer testified that he had a conversation with Matt Lindland in 2008 about a therapeutic use exemption, but Sonnen's name wasn't brought up specifically. Kizer pointed out a false statement in a previous declaration from Sonnen, in which he said that the NSAC told him not to declare testosterone injections in his pre-fight medical questionnaire.
- Sonnen became emotional while giving testimony about his fighting career. His eyes welled up as he discussed the opportunities he'd be missing out on if he wasn't re-licensed, including a "once in a lifetime" coaching gig on The Ultimate Fighter, which could lead to a title shot if he beat his rival coach (Michael Bisping). "If I don't get my license today I'm effectively retired," Sonnen said. "That came from the boss, Dana White…I worked for this chance my whole life. I don't want to retire today."
On Twitter, Gross clarified what "indefinite" means.
So there’s a chance Sonnen could get re-licensed elsewhere outside of California, but that doesn’t mean his status would change in Nevada. Why is Nevada important? That’s where TUF is taped.
Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, has said repeatedly that Sonnen needs a license to coach on TUF. Sonnen confirmed during the hearing that he was offered a coaching against Michael Bisping on TUF 14. Gross reported that Sonnen needs his license re-established by June 5 to be eligible.

It’s wildcard fight night this week on "The Ultimate Fighter," as well as the coaches’ challenge. Who will win the last spot on the quarterfinals? Which coach will prevail? And why are the Octagon Girls wearing cheerleading uniforms? Read on for spoilers and a fight recap.
As was announced in last week’s episode, Chuck O’Neil will fight Javier Torres in the wildcard bout that will decide the last quarterfinalist. Len Bentley, who felt like he was screwed in his bout, is not happy and goes after Dana White to ask for a spot in the finale. You can imagine how that goes over. The fighters had a spot to speak up last week with Dana and the other coaches, and Bentley was nowhere near s enthusiastic in during that talk as he was when he grabbed Dana.
"If you had grabbed me like this two hours ago, we wouldn’t be having this discussion," White said.
Whiner of the week: Bentley goes on and on and on about how he’s the best fighter. And on. And on. Everyone gets annoyed with this, and Ryan McGillivray uses the opportunity to stir the spot. He tells Bentley that Junior dos Santos told him (do you feel like you’re in seventh grade?) that Brock said that Bentley’s knee wasn’t ready.
Bad idea jeans of the week: Bentley decides he will stand up to Brock, calling him selfish and rude. Good plan.
When he does, Lesnar said that it was because of the knee, and that both Brock and Dana wanted healthy fighters. He also said that Dana really liked how Chuck and Javier fought.
Len goes back to his workout. Way to tell him, Len!
On the other side of the coin, Lesnar doubts that O’Neil really wants to fight. Oh, jeez.
"I Feel Pretty" of the Week: O’Neil decides that it’s time to ditch the dirty neckbeard look.
He gets rid of his neckbeard, cleans up the hairstyle, and admits that the cameras may have gotten to him.
The makeover worked, as O’Neil is back to impressing his coaches. Marty Morgan says, "He said I’m no longer good time Chuck. I’m back to being Cold Steel."
Roommate issues of the week: It’s that time of the season when the fighters get tired of living with each other. This time, the issue is Chris Cope’s loudness, and how Shamar Bailey wants to fight him just to shut him up. Ahh, togetherness.
COACHES CHALLENGE! It’s my favorite part of the series. (Besides, y’know, good fights.) The challenge is football, and they’re playing at Fertitta Field at Bishop Gorman High School, where Dana and the Fertittas went to high school. Considering Lesnar tried out for the Vikings and grew up in the football-crazed U.S., he has an edge over dos Santos, who said, "I never played this!"
They have to run through a series of football drills, include ropes, a slalom, hitting a tackling sled, throwing a pass and kicking a football. The first one done gets $10,000, while his team gets $1,500.
Brock gets down in a three-point stance to start, and they’re even until Junior kicks a field goal more quickly than Brock. He also is able to throw a pass with more success than Brock, so he wins the challenge and gets $10K.
"I think we both sucked. He just got luckier than I did," Lesnar said.
Dos Santos decided to give some cash to the fighters and coaches on the other team. Everyone except Brock.
Quote of the week: "Team dos Santos has four wins, and we have three. This would tie us up, and it’s good to win. It’s better to win than to lose." — Brock Lesnar
Fight of the week: Javier Torres (Team dos Santos) vs. Chuck O’Neil (Team Lesnar)
Round one: O’Neil starts with a kick to the head and a takedown attempt. He can’t get the takedown, and the fighters take the bout to the fence. Torres and O’Neil exchange knees until O’Neil breaks away and throws a punch. However, they end up right back at the fence. O’Neil is unsuccessful in a trip attempt, and they go back to kneeing each other in the body. Referee Herb Dean breaks them apart after Torres lands an inadvertent knee to O’Neil’s groin. When they restart, they continue clinching.
Round two: Torres finally gets his takedown in the first minute of the round. O’Neil cage walks up to his feet then takes Torres down. At this point, the fight slows down. O’Neil tries for a kimura that he doesn’t have, while Torres has no idea how to get out from underneath O’Neil. Finally, O’Neil can get movement, and sinks in a D’Arce choke. Torres taps, and O’Neil moves on.
Each team has four fighters in the quarters. The match-ups are:
Clay Harvison vs. Ramsey Nijem
Chris Cope vs. Shamar Bailey
Chuck O’Neil vs. Zach Davis
Tony Ferguson vs. Ryan McGillivray
The first two quarterfinals will air next week.

The International Motorcycling Federation announced 11 teams have passed the latest round of applications for the 2012 MotoGP season.
MotoGP promoter Dorna and the International Road Racing Teams Association selected 11 new teams representing 16 riders to continue with the application process for the 2012 season. Applicants submitted detailed plans for participation to the IRTA by May 14. The FIM announced in April that 14 teams and 21 riders had passed the previous step but the list was whittled down to 13 teams after the May 13-15 Le Mans round.
The 11 remaining teams will have until June 3 to provide a security deposit with the IRTA. Dorna and the IRTA will then decide during the June 3-5 Catalunya Grand Prix which teams will be offered a contract to race in the 2012 season. Teams wishing to participate as Claiming Rule Teams will also have to receive approval from the Grand Prix Commission. While there?s no guarantee all 11 remaining teams will pass this final step, the MotoGP grid will be a lot larger than its current 17-rider lineup.
The FIM did not announce which teams had made it past the recent round of cuts, though it is believed that Norton had applied for a team with two riders. Following the Catalunya grand Prix, the FIM will release the names of the teams invited to join the existing teams for the 2012 MotoGP season.

I’ve spent the past four days out at Pala MX Raceway for the annual A Day In The Dirt Motocross Grand Prix. It’s three days of fun, family … just a really great event. Where else can you ride with both your daughter and Jeremy McGrath?
But instead of telling you what it’s about, I thought I’d share with you what it’s like to do a lap in one of the Team races. A Team race is where you have a partner (I raced with Louis Franco) and you switch off each lap. You have to ‘hand off’ a wrist band to your partner – and then he takes off to do the next lap.

Honda Racing Corporation has decided to unveil their long-awaited NSF250R 4-stroke bike at the Catalunya race circuit in Barcelona on June 2, 2011, just in time for the future Moto3 class that?s set to take the place of the current 125cc category of the GP125 class of the FIM Road-Racing World Championship.
The new NSF250R 4-stroke bike bears striking similarities to the bike it?s replacing, the RS125R. Incidentally, the RS125R was ridden by both Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso to their respective World Championship runs.
In developing the NSF250R, Honda Racing Corporation wanted to build a bike that took the same high-performance, lightweight, and compact elements of the RS125R. ?We want users to ride with the same sense of comfort and inherits important elements from the RS125R such as the ability to learn the basics for moving up from entry level to the MotoGP,? The importance of opening up new markets for motorcycle racing has been one of the biggest topics of conversation in both the World Superbike and MotoGP paddocks for the last couple of years. From racing's traditional base in Europe – and especially Southern Europe – both WSBK and MotoGP have been looking eastwards, both to Eastern Europe and Asia.
Russia has been one country that both series have been eyeing up with interest, given the potential size of the TV market there. But it is the World Superbike series which has been the first to break into the Russian market, with Infront Motor Sports today announcing that the company has today signed a deal with Yakhnich Motorsports to promote the WSBK series in Russia, as well as organize a Russian round of WSBK from 2012 onwards. The circuit is yet to be decided upon – the press release speaks merely of several circuits currently being assessed as to their suitability, before applying for FIM homologation.

HRC explains.
The bike is scheduled to have its official press face time on June 2nd at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona with a public demonstration by Alex Criville happening a day later on June 3rd followed by another demo lap right after the warm-up session of the MotoGP race on Sunday, June 5th.

Before past fights, Frank Mir has engaged in some pretty nasty trash talking wars. This time it just doesn’t feel right, but that doesn’t mean Mir’s fightplan is any different against Roy Nelson.
"If my wife we’re to get in the ring with me, I would try to knock her head off and choke her unconscious. I would flip the switch instantly," Mir said with a smile. "Roy and I are friends before the fight. I like the guy a lot. But during the fight, it doesn’t matter that we do or don’t like each other beforehand. Trust me, Roy is going to try and knock my head off. I’m going to try and knock his head off. And if I can catch him in a choke, I want him to go to sleep. And I guarantee you he’d like to take arm off and put it on his mantle."
Check out Larry Pepe (ProMMARadio), Damon Martin (MMAWeekly) and myself picking the Mir-Nelson fight using the Las Vegas odds.

A Supercross is usually filled with its share of dramatic moments. From the jump off the gate to those first turn pile ups, all the way to that finish and everything in between, the action at Supercross is always nonstop.
The 2010 Phoenix Supercross had more dramatic moments than your normal race. However it was in those days that followed that the drama grew with various opinions that were blasted across message boards and blogs. I certainly appreciated the hot topics brought to the surface by the many people who love the sport of Supercross. And like you I have my own thoughts on the James Stewart and Chad Reed ‘incident’ …
It was just one year ago when a controversy made headlines with Jason Lawrence, Josh Hansen and Steve Boniface were ‘fighting’.
The backlash for those guys were met by AMA officials. Last year the Rules stated that the following offense is subject to disciplinary action:
An attack on a Racing official and/or engaging in a fight. This includes any person who attacks or is involved in a fight anywhere on the premises prior to, during, or after an AMA Supercross meet. There will be no maximum fine or suspension period for this offense.
My point here is that Supercross is no stranger to its share of drama but in the aftermath of last year, and now Phoenix, what does it take to show some true sportsmanship and character in tough occupation?
James commented thru his blog initially. Info on Chad Reed came thru Kawasaki and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Manager Mike Fisher stated that Chad would not return to racing until he is 100 percent. Chad is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks to heal his broken left hand. Six to seven weeks puts us near the Daytona Supercross and by then there will still be eight races left on the schedule.

Rick Johnson is a seven time AMA Motocross and Supercross Champion. These are his thoughts on the upcoming 2011 AMA / FIM Supercross Series.
Depending on how healthy riders stay during the season, Supercross 2011 could be an incredibly awesome year.
Of course, we all say that every year, but this year could be something special – if most stay healthy.
As I go down a list of riders, my top pick is defending AMA Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey.
Do I think Ryan will dominate Supercross the way he did outdoor MX in 2010? No, but after watching Ryan over the past few years, and especially at the MX of Nations in Italy in 2009, I’ve seen his confidence go up and up. Each time out, he gets a little faster, a little stronger, and smarter.

The next hot-button issue concerning the EPA and motorcycles is not gas and particle pollution like you might expect, but instead simply noise. There’s always been a battle between the straight-pipe running motorcycle contingency (you know who you are), whose loud pipes have been an earsore for both regular citizens and motorcyclists alike. It is not a good birthday for UFC lightweight Gray Maynard. His bout with Frankie Edgar, a rematch of their January draw, has been postponed as both fighters have suffered injuries. The fight is expected to take place in August or September.
WEC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis was considered for a fight with Maynard until injury sidelined him. As planned, Pettis will fight Clay Guida on "The Ultimate Fighter" finale in June.
"They were going to have me fight Maynard on that card. I said yes to that deal right away. I guess it turns out that it’s not going to happen. I’m back to fighting Guida," Pettis told HeavyMMA.com. "It sucks that he got injured, because it kinda puts the whole lightweight division back on standstill. "
That moves the Quinton "Rampage" Jackson vs. Matt Hamill bout into the main event, and Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story onto the pay-per-view. Demetrious Johnson vs. Miguel Torres and Tim Boetsch vs. Kendall Grove will air on Spike TV.
This puts a damper on what was a top-heavy card. The other pay-per-view bouts include Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson, Travis Browne vs. Stefan Struve, and Jorge Santiago vs. Brian Stann. Though there are exciting bouts, the card doesn’t have anywhere near the same firepower as UFC 129, the card that broke records weeks ago in Toronto.

The crash on lap 18 of the Le Mans MotoGP race could have serious consequences for Dani Pedrosa. The crash, caused when Marco Simoncelli cut across Pedrosa's bow entering the Chemin aux Boeufs esses, leaving Pedrosa nowhere to go but into Simoncelli's back wheel, saw Pedrosa flipped off his back and land heavily on his right-hand side. Pedrosa got up clutching his right shoulder, and was taken to the Clinica Mobile where X-rays diagnosed a broken collarbone.

After watching the first three supercross races of the 2011 season, I'll share with you what I see at this point.
Two riders that have really impressed me so far are Ryan Villopoto and Trey Canard. Looking at their fitness, their riding technique, their ability to get thru traffic on the race track, both are far beyond what I thought they would be.
I knew Ryan would be fast. But when a rider has been away from racing for a while, as he has, sometimes it takes a while to knock off the rust. Ryan has looked great after his heat races – obviously the training with Aldon Baker has helped him a lot. I can see his fitness, how much he is sweating, and his ability to retain his breath and breathing after both his heats and main events. It's visible that Ryan has leaned down together with Aldon, and he's in awesome condition.
I thought it would take Trey Canard at least half a season in the premiere Supercross class to where he was really comfortable. As I watch Trey in these first three races, there are certain section of the different tracks where he is faster than either Villopoto or James Stewart. Once Trey puts together the whole track, and an entire 20 laps like that – look for him to win some races this year.

This year’s AMA Motocross Banquet & Season Celebration was held in a magnificent banquet room at the Pala Resort & Casino. The room was decorated beautifully, lined with motocross décor, as well as a stage decorated with the championship bikes and awards. The line-up of food, appetizers, desserts, and beverages was very elegant and delicious.
After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Jason Weigandt, along with Tim Cotter hosted the show. And of course Jason started it just like he does many of his shows – after slamming down an energy drink.
Jason went on to talk about each round of this summer’s AMA Motocross Nationals, with a list of funny jokes pertaining to all the good and bad situations at each of the races. After that, the awards and trophies were handed out.
The night was filled with special memories, good times, and laughs. One poignant moment was when Kevin Windham accepted the award for ‘Sportsperson of the Year’. Kevin always has a great way of expressing himself, but made a great comment towards his friend & the team manager, Mike LaRocco. He commented on Mike’s motivation, that pushed Kevin to work hard and do his best … it was touching, but at the same time very funny.

Two welterweight champions defended their belts in April. First, Nick Diaz kept his Strikeforce strap with an exciting, first-round win over Paul Daley on April 9. On April 30, it was the UFC champion’s chance, as Georges St-Pierre won a not-so-exciting decision over Jake Shields.
Now that Zuffa owns both the UFC and Strikeforce, wouldn’t it make sense to square them off? Diaz is begging for the bout, and their coaches believe it should be next.
Firas Zahabi said that with Diaz still in the wings, GSP still faces enough of a challenge at welterweight to not move up to middleweight. From MMAFighting.com:
"If Georges went up (to 185) right now, he wouldn’t have cleaned out the division because there’s still Nick Diaz there," Zahabi said. "He’s champion, so you can’t say he doesn’t deserve a shot. I can’t confirm anything, but I see it as a possibility. They have two champions. It’s always exciting to see two champions go at it. He has a great style. He has beautiful boxing, great jiu-jitsu, and it’s very similar to his brother. It’s not easy to fight a tall, lanky guy like that. And he’s always very busy. It’s a whole different style than Jake."
Though Shields and Diaz are training partners, Diaz’s boxing background means that he could pose a much bigger threat to GSP’s stand-up game.
Cesar Gracie, Diaz’s coach, believes that Nick is the man to challenge GSP’s safe style. From MMAjunkie.com:
"He’s a guy that could press the action against GSP and not let GSP dictate the pace. GSP has been a great champ, and hats off to him. But there has been criticism that he’s not really taking risks. With Nick, you have the ultimate risk-taker. He will fight you at your game. He throws caution to the wind, really, because he’s more interested in beating you up than winning on points. I think that makes for an intriguing matchup between the two."
In his bout against Daley, Diaz appeared to be in trouble several times because he took chances to try to end the fight. There was no danger like that in the GSP-Shields bout.
Let’s face it, both fighters don’t have many challenges within their own promotions or weight classes. Their trainers wouldn’t suggest these fights if they didn’t think it would be good for the fighters and their careers. It’s time for GSP and Diaz to fight. Please make it happen, Zuffa.

Rashad Evans is one of the many fighters in Las Vegas for the UFC Summit. While he listens to lectures and lessons on life, he’s still trying to wrap his head around what went down in his rift with former teammate Jon Jones and why he’s no longer training with Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque.
Evans said he’ll never train with Greg Jackson in Albuquerque again. He’ll work out of camps in Florida, Arizona and New York. He’s also not sure about Jackson’s partner gym, Grudge Training Center in the Denver area.
"Great team out there (Nate Marquardt, Shane Carwin, Brendan Schaub, Duane Ludwig). It’s like family out there, but the thing about that is … they’re like team-affiliated with Jackson. I don’t want to put them in a position where they feel like they train with me and [they're] having to choose because of the way things are."
Evans said he and Jones crossed paths in Toronto at UFC 129.
"I seen him in Toronto and walked by him and he looked at me and said ‘what you looking at’ and I said ‘what you looking at,’" Evans said.
The fighters followed that up by calling each clowns and moved on.
Evans feels Jones is two different people.
"Jon will put on his Jon Jones hat when he’s in front of the media, but I know Jon Jones," Evans said. "I have more respect for ‘Rampage’ [Jackson] than I do for Jon. At least Rampage will be like ‘this is me, this is what you get.’ He’s straight up, boom. I don’t like that sneaky, sneaky stuff. Jon is like sneaky. Snake … snake."

The crash which saw Marco Simoncelli collide with Dani Pedrosa, earning Simoncelli a ride-through penalty and Pedrosa a fractured collarbone, has added another chapter to Pedrosa's long litany of injuries. Pedrosa fractured his right collarbone in the crash, just seven months after he broke his left collarbone in a crash at Motegi, and a month after surgery to remove the plate inserted after Motegi.
The aftermath of that Motegi crash is having an impact on the treatment of Pedrosa's broken collarbone at Le Mans. When Pedrosa returned to racing after Motegi, he suffered symptoms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, including numbness and a lack of strength in his left arm while racing. Fortunately for the Spaniard, after extensive examination, it was found that the problem was being caused not by nerve damage – which could have been career-ending – but by the plate somehow constricting the blood flow to his left arm caused by the particular position of his arm when racing a motorcycle. After Jerez, Pedrosa had the plate removed, and those symptoms disappeared, though the surgery to remove the plate left Pedrosa with muscle cramp and post-operative pain.

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another episode of "The Ultimate Fighter." After tonight’s episode, we’ll know who most of the quarterfinalists are, as well as the recipients of the "second-chance" wildcard berths, awarded to two fighters who lost in the first round but deserve another chance. Who will win tonight’s bouts? Who will get the wildcard? Will Junior dos Santos and Lew Polley appear to be coaching two different teams again? Is Dana White wearing a Stevie Nicks shirt as a cross-promotion with Glee’s Fleetwood Mac episode from Tuesday night? Read on for spoilers and a recap.
Signals crossed of the night: After dos Santos gives a rousing speech to his fighters, who just suffered another loss, telling them that losing is part of the game, his assistant coach says, "No. It’s your job to win, even if it is boring." Dos Santos tells Polley, in a very nice way, to shut up.
Oh No of the Week: At Lesnar’s training practice, Len Bentley, their main wildcard hope, injures his knee. Clay Harvison is getting his finger, which was mangled in his last fight, checked out at the hospital. Both fighters assume that they’re done.
But Wait! of the Week: Harvison’s finger is easily fixable. Bentley’s knee dislocated, but no ligaments were torn. I’ve dislocated my knee. It’s awful, terrible, horrible, not-so-much-mind-numbing-as-blinding pain, but afterwards, it heals pretty quickly. (The surgery to keep it from dislocating again? I don’t recommend.)
Junior vs. Lew of the Day: Dos Santos is ticked that Polley went to the fighters’ house without telling him, and he feels like Polley is constantly going over his head. Probably because he is. Dos Santos lets the hammer come down, telling Polley it’s time to go home. Polley is obviously disappointed, but there was only so many times that he could contradict dos Santos before this was going to happen.
Fight picks of the week: With control in their hands, Team Lesnar pits Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Edwards, which will put two wrestlers against each other. That means Lesnar’s Chuck O’Neil will fight Zach Davis from Team dos Santos.
Good-Bye, Lou of the Week: Dos Santos’ fighters are worried that they won’t understand anyone from their corner … and that’s all they have to say about that.
Fight One of the Week: Tony Ferguson (Team Lesnar) vs. Justin Edwards (Team dos Santos)
Round One: Edwards comes out throwing every single punch ever invented ever. He then tries for a takedown, but can’t get it done. Lesnar then announces, "He just blew his wad." Classy. Ferguson takes advantage, lands more strikes and shakes off an Edwards takedown. Just when it appears that Lesnar was right, Edwards starts coming back and gets a takedown. But Edwards’ good fortune doesn’t last long he stands up to reset, and Ferguson lands a heel kick, knocking Edwards out.
"That’s the [expletive] that makes you want to get out of bed on a Saturday and watch a fight," Dana White said after the bout. Fighters can not have a more ringing endorsement than that.
Edwards is disappointed, but he should take consolation in the fact that he impress White. For Ferguson, the win is a great birthday celebration.
Fight Two of the Week: Chuck O’Neil (Team Lesnar) vs. Zach Davis (Team dos Santos)
Round One: Davis shoots in and gets an immediate takedown. O’Neil tries for a guillotine, but can’t hold onto it. Though O’Neil gets back to his feet, Davis continues to be in control in the clinch. He throws several knees into O’Neil’s body, and then takes it back to the ground. Davis works on the ground before standing over O’Neil, allowing him to stand back up, and then taking him down again. This time, O’Neil sneaks out the back and gets top position, landing several blows. But Davis doesn’t give up. He maneuvers around to slap a triangle choke on O’Neil, causing him to tap.
Again, White was impressed with both fighters and the way they had a war on the ground.
Heartbreak of the week: White calls Justin Edwards into the office to tell him that he was picked for the wildcard spot but (dramatic pause) he has a medical suspension for 90 days and he can’t fight. He’s broken-hearted, but will thank the commission when he’s 53 and remembers his kids’ names.
Missed opportunity of the week: As is the custom, White and the coaches ask every wildcard candidate to come in and say why they want the fight. Though they all seem to want it, no one blows White and the coaches away. Have they not watched the show before?
Confidential to future "The Ultimate Fighter" contestants: If you want the wildcard spot or the spot of an injured fighter, jump up and down. Yell. Swear. Write it on your chest then rip your shirt off, Hulk Hogan-style. It’s obvious that this is the hoop that White wants you to jump though, so jump through it.
The coaches and White finish an oddly civil discussion about the wildcards, and announce that the wildcard fight will be:
Javier Torres (Team dos Santos) vs. Chuck O’Neil (Team Lesnar)

Before I make my customary offensive remarks about states that aren’t California, it should be noted that we here at Asphalt & Rubber are eternally grateful for the fine Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the birthplace of our humble motorcycle news blog. That being said, it’s also good to see that the Keystone State has pulled its head out of its ass long enough to pass a bill (passed in the Senate, with the House still to …

Jason MacDonald is one resilient dude. He suffered a broken tibia and fibula back at UFC 113, but refused to be taken from the Montreal cage on a stretcher. He walked to the locker room to the night, so it should come as no surprise that the UFC veteran stormed back less than 12 months later to post a win over Ryan Jensen in fight No. 3 at UFC 129 in Toronto.
Less than 10 seconds into the fight, MacDonald worked a single-leg takedown. Jensen went down and tried to work a guillotine choke, but he was no match for the slick ground game of MacDonald.
The Canadian quickly transitioned to take Jensen’s back. It was academic from there. Jensen’s right arm was trapped.
MacDonald had the option of going for a triangle choke or armbar. He went with the triangle. Jensen lifted MacDonald off the ground and tried to slam his way out. That was an awful move, it only help MacDonald lock it on tighter. Jensen tapped at 1:37 of the first.

Zero Motorcycles has quietly announced some interesting news: that Mark Blackwell, V.P. of Motorcycles at Polaris Industries, will be joining the electric motorcycle company’s Board of Directors. With a plethora of reasons as to why an industry veteran like Blackwell would join Zero’s board, it’s been no secret that the Scotts Valley company has been collecting seasoned industry professionals like pokemon characters, seemingly building a brain trust of people who actually know how to run a …

This week I caught up with Kevin Windham. In the video below, Kevin Windham talks about the Superbowl Champions, the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, his family, his future plans for racing and beyond.
The Superbowl XLIV champions, the New Orleans Saints, have many fans – among them is none other than the number 14 in Supercross, Kevin Windham. While the NFL season started when Supercross was in its off season, Kevin was able to take part in season tickets to his favorite NFL team – da’ Saints. Eventually the 2010 Supercross season got underway in January, which meant Kevin was flying off after those Saturday night Main Events back East to watch the New Orleans Saints Playoff games.
On February 7, 2010 the New Orleans Saints headed to the Superbowl in Miami, Florida and Kevin Windham and his wife Dottie made arrangements to attend this momentous occasion. First, however Kevin had to finish up a Supercross race in San Diego the night before.

If you switched on for the last 10 minutes of qualifying at Le Mans this afternoon, you were in for a treat. A thrilling finale to qualifying reminded everyone of why MotoGP doesn't really need Superpole, as exciting as that can be on a World Superbike weekend. Casey Stoner finally secured his third pole of the season by just 0.059 seconds, or fractionally more than a bike length. Marco Simoncelli had been using his lanky frame to muscle the San Carlo Gresini RC212V around the track in pursuit of Stoner's time, but the Italian came up just a fraction short. With Simoncelli this close in qualifying, it should be a pretty close race, right?

We haven’t updated our rankings of the Top 10 middleweights in mixed martial arts in quite some time because, frankly, Anderson Silva has made it a boring division.
That’s not to say Silva is boring: When he’s on his game, he’s as exciting as any athlete this sport has ever seen. And it’s not to say the other fighters in the division are boring: There have been plenty of good middleweight scraps over the last few months.
But ranking the middleweight division can get boring because not much changes: It’s always Silva on top, and a familiar cast of characters competing for the right to be Silva’s next victim.
But there are some indications that the middleweight division in mixed martial arts might be getting a little more interesting. Yushin Okami is finally scheduled to get the title shot that was promised to him months ago, Chael Sonnen is finally getting close to being cleared for a return, and the addition of Strikeforce middleweights (starting in July with Jason Mayhem Miller and likely including Strikeforce champ Jacare Souza soon) may inject some new blood into the middleweight class.
So now is a good time to update our list of the Top 10 middleweights in mixed martial arts, keeping an eye on what’s ahead for Silva and the other top fighters.

With the forthcoming launch of the new K2 Backcountry snowboard line, the fine folks at K2 Snowboarding and Atlas Snowshoes invited a group of magazine folks for a group media event at Mt. Baker. While a snowboard trip to Mt. Baker is normal for myself, this trip was a bit different as we were given the chance to check out new backcountry product from K2/Atlas, shred with K2 Pros Shaun McKay and Aaron Robinson, and receive a fairly extensive backcountry course from American Alpine Institute including route-finding, snow profiles and more.
From somebody that grew up riding the Baker backcountry via bootpack, accessing terrain with a splitboard and snowshoes was a nice treat. This was actually my first time using a snowboard-specific snowshoe and I was pleasantly surprised on how easy it was to hike and cover terrain much faster and easier than post-holing. In the past, one of my major concerns with splitboarding was that the skins sometimes did not stay on the board. It appears K2 has solved this issue with skins that attach to both the front and rear of the board when in ascend mode. Impressive—way cool and well done K2.
While ease of access and quality gear is a large part of the Backcountry snowboarding experience, safety certainly needs to be addressed and K2/Atlas was quick to mention this at every opportunity. Given the warm and snowing conditions and twitchy snowpack, it was good timing to check out a pit profile and learn a bit more about traveling in avalanche terrain. The American Alpine Institute is known to have one of if not the best avalanche safety courses in the Northwest and offers trips all over the globe to remote locations. Our media group was lucky to have a few hours of intense avalanche training, which included pit digging, terrain analysis, a run or two, and a group discussion over cold beverages.
Thank you K2 Snowboarding, Atlas, AAI, Connor, Hunter and Ryan, for re-introducing me to the familiar Mt Baker backcountry with a new perspective on both equipment and snow safety.

The UFC and Brock Lesnar announced awful news today. Lesnar is battling diverticulitis again. The potentially life-threatening digestive ailment will sideline the former UFC heavyweight champion for an indefinite period of time.
While battling the ailment with antibiotics, Lesnar can’t train the way he needs to, so he’s dropped out of his fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 131 in June. Shane Carwin will move into the slot vacated by Lesnar.
Lesnar said he spent 14 hours yesterday at the Mayo Clinic to get answers about the latest run-in with the ailment.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound MMA star battled diverticulitis from the fall of 2009 into the spring of 2010. He dropped 40 pounds. In his first fight back at UFC 114, Lesnar beat Shane Carwin.

Melvin Guillard had just arrived in Las Vegas for the UFC Fighter Summit when he was told about the lightweight title bout at UFC 130 being cancelled. The Frank Edgar-Gray Maynard fight set for May 28 is off and could be re-scheduled for some time in August or September. Guillard hadn’t been on the Internet and doesn’t always follow MMA news, so he was shocked.
The cancellation is bad news for him. Guillard, a winner of four straight and 7-of-8, is one of the top lightweights battling for the next title fight. Surprisingly, Guillard said he’s willing to wait a while until he gets his shot.
"I’d rather [Edgar and Maynard] go in healthy anyway because you don’t want any flukes in a fight. You want to know who’s the dominant guy. I wouldn’t want somebody to win a belt and have someone say ‘well that guy didn’t really win. He only won because that guy got injured.’ And then next thing you know I take a belt from one of those guys and then they say ‘he wasn’t the real champion.’"
Guillard also said he’s fine if all the "champions" that UFC has brought on board recently get their shot first.
"They need to weed out all the champions because if you don’t do that, then you still have a cluster[expletive]," Guillard said. "That was the best thing about Dana and those guys buying all those companies is to see who’s the No. 1 guy on top."
Guillard thinks former WEC 155 champ Anthony Pettis should get the next shot followed by Strikeforce 155 champ Gilbert Melendez. He also knows that if he steamrolls a few more opponents there’s always a chance he leapfrogs one of those champs into a shot at the UFC strap.
Guillard fights in July at UFC 132 against former WEC lightweight Shane Roller.
